Balatro publisher Playstack has published its interim results, revealing that its revenue more than doubled year-on-year (YoY) in the first half of 2025.

The results, which were published as part of its parent company TruFin’s interim report, showed that Playstack’s revenue for the first half of 2025 increased 52% YoY, from £20.2 million ($27.3 million) in 2024 to £30.7 million ($41.5 million) in 2025.

Playstack also revealed that its poker-themed roguelike, Balatro, and survival game, Abiotic Factor, sold over three million units combined in the first half of 2025.

“Playstack’s hit ratio – measured by the percentage of games generating a positive return on external development costs – remains outstanding,” Playstack said in a press release revealing the results.

Following an early access launch in May 2024, Abiotic Factor 1.0 released on July 22, 2025, with Playstack stating its performance in the second half of 2025 is driven by this launch.

While Balatro appears to be continuing to sell well, too, developer LocalThunk announced last week that they are indefinitely delaying the game’s next update to “avoid crunch mode.”

“2025 has seen our momentum continue, as we work to the plan we’ve had from the beginning,” said PlayStack founder and CEO Harvey Elliott.

“The results and accolades underpin that our clear and straightforward strategy to discover the best titles wherever they may be, in any genre and across platforms, has positioned us to make the most of market opportunities.

“Playstack has demonstrated time and time again our ability to spot, support and publish stunning indie games.

“Our team believes that passionately supporting our developers and delivering excellence in publishing is key to our success, and will continue to reinforce our desire to become the leading UK indie publisher.”

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz in May 2025, Elliott described Balatro as “a changer for Playstack” and for the industry.

“What has changed for us is that it’s given us a bit of confidence – or a bit more confidence,” said Elliott. “It’s great to get reinforcement of the sorts of games we look for and the strategy we’ve set out on.”
