The Switch 2 has achieved the highest global sales figure of any Nintendo platform in the first four months of launch.

During a briefing held after the platform holder’s latest financial results, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa also revealed that sales of the Switch 2 “are growing at the fastest rate in the history of [its] dedicated video game platforms.”

Sales of the Switch 2 reached 10.36 million units during its first four months on the market, more than double of what the original Switch achieved during the same timeframe.

Furukawa reiterated that Nintendo will “ensure a stable supply of hardware” by expanding production to meet “demand exceeding expectations” – an issue that was addressed prior to launch.

Moving forward, Furukawa said Nintendo will focus primarily on developing software for the Switch 2, and expand its business around the platform.

He emphasised that Nintendo will continue sales of original Switch hardware, which “maintained a steady sales pace even after the launch of its successor.”

Nintendo also provided insight into consumer habits, noting that 84% of Switch 2 users are players who transitioned from the original Switch, while 16% are new players.

“Consumers who purchased the Switch between its launch in 2017 and the launch of the Switch 2 have been uniformly migrating to the Switch 2,” Furukawa noted.

Looking at software, Furukawa said an estimated nine out of ten consumers who purchased the Switch 2 have played Mario Kart World, which has sold 9.57 million units since its launch with the console.

This stat includes consumers who bought the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World Bundle, as well as digital sales.

The console’s second major first-party title, Donkey Kong Bananza, sold 2.6 million units within the first 12 weeks of launch.

Furukawa also noted that the “strong support” from third-party publishers has resulted in the Switch 2 having the “largest third-party software lineup for a new Nintendo hardware ever.”

Nintendo reported major gains for the first six months ended September 30, 2025, with sales jumping 110% to ¥1.1 trillion ($7.2 billion) and a 19.5% rise in operating profits to ¥145.1 billion ($950 million).

The firm also revised its full year forecast, predicting net sales of ¥2.25 trillion ($14.6 billion, up 93.1%) and operating profit of ¥370 million ($2.4 billion, up 30.9%).

It expects hardware sales of 19 million units for the Switch 2 (up 26.7%) and software sales of 48 million units (up 6.7%).
