UK-based publisher Outright Games has confirmed that it is making layoffs.
In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, the company said that it was cutting 27 roles across its UK and Spanish teams. Outright says that these changes are in part to make sure it is “aligned with market conditions”.
Marketing, production, creative, quality assurance and OG Labs are impacted by the redundancies.
Outright Games is known for its line-up of licensed titles for kids based on the likes of Barbie, Chicken Run, the NBA and Paw Patrol (pictured).
“After careful consideration and reviewing a number of possible paths forward, we have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy process that will impact 27 roles at Outright Games across our UK and Spanish teams,” a spokesperson for the publisher said in a statement.
“These decisions were not taken lightly, and we are fully committed to supporting our colleagues throughout this transition.
“These changes form part of ensuring Outright Games is aligned with market conditions and is structured for the future. Our focus remains on delivering high-quality family entertainment.”
These layoffs come just four months after staff at Aheartfulofgames, the Outright Games-owned developer of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed, were told that they were going to be made redundant. 28 workers were affected by that news.
This also comes hot on the heels of news that Outright Games was part of a new holding company called Roundtable Interactive Group, along UK studio Auroch Digital, US publisher GameMill Entertainment and multiplayer tech firm Coherence.
This venture is headed by Outright Games Group CEO – and Toadman Interactive and Enad Global 7 veteran – Robin Flodin, who has been a director in Outright Games since November 2024. Roundtable Interactive is backed by investment group EMK Capital.
In its statement back when its staff were faced with redundancy earlier this year, Aheartfulofgames said that a change of leadership at Outright had caused a change to “prioritising low-cost, fast-turnaround projects.”
These layoffs at Outright are only the latest in a long line of redundancies and overall bad news for the games industry in the last few years. Just recently, Swedish firm Avalanche confirmed it was closing its Liverpool studio, affecting 31 staff, while Redhill Games has said that its restructuring program will “impact several talented colleagues”.
Meanwhile, Tomb Raider firm Crystal Dynamics recently laid off 30 staff in its third round of layoffs this year and Sharkmob has said that an undisclosed number of jobs are at risk thanks to a “difficult but necessary” restructuring scheme at the studio.
