A programming note: we are now signing off until 2026. Some new articles will appear on the site over the festive period along with a few repeats, and there will be a couple of newsletters to highlight those – but otherwise the GamesIndustry.biz team has downed tools for 2025.
Thanks for joining us for it. It’s been another difficult 12 months for the industry, marked once again by layoffs, consolidation, and uncertainty – but there have also been huge and well-deserved successes, as teams large and small adapt to the new status quo.
Such as? We’re glad you asked, and have prepared some helpful references as we’ve put together our Year in Review.
We will be back in January to see what 2026 has in store for the industry. Twelve months ago, the year ended with the mantra “survive ’til 25,” as the industry struggled through unprecedented layoffs and cutbacks. Those who did were greeted by a year dismayingly similar to the one that had gone before.
I haven’t come across a comparable mantra for 2026, but in my conversations across the industry there is an understanding that we’re in a mature market in which both professional and personal budgets will be carefully rationed – and in which there will nevertheless be opportunities for the enterprising and entrepreneurial to achieve great things.
We’ll be trying a few new things ourselves next year, which we’ll tell you more about in January, but we’ll continue to be telling the most important stories and sharing insights that serve the industry. Thanks for reading, and have a great holiday.
