Warner Bros. Games has reportedly dismissed an unknown number of staff at its San Francisco studio.

As spotted by Game Developer, former employees have been sharing that their roles have been terminated due to layoffs.

Director of design Tony Perkins shared last month that his position and team “would be eliminated” at the end of December. Perkins suggested it was because “a great game didn’t find the success it needed.”

GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Warner Bros. Games for further clarification and comment.

Another former employee, art director Roland Herran, also said the studio had been hit with layoffs. Herran had been at the studio for over a decade.

“I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with some amazing people during my time at WBSF and I’m very proud of the work we’ve done together,” he wrote. “I did a lot of growing at the studio and feel great about the future and what it might hold.”

Warner Bros. Games’ San Francisco studio is where its Digital Publishing division is situated.

It also produces some of the developer’s mobile titles, including DC Worlds Collide, as well as the multiplatform title MultiVersus, which was shut down last May due to underperformance.

Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Games closed three studios – Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros San Diego.

“We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises,” the company said.

This resulted in the cancellation of Monolith’s Wonder Woman game, which was described as a “tough decision.”

“Our hope was to give players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character, and unfortunately this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities,” it added.
