UKIE’s Tencent-backed Video Games Growth Programme returns with 30-strong cohort of studios

UK games trade body UKIE has revealed the 30 studios that are taking part in its second-ever Video Games Growth Programme.

The initiative is designed to “help ambitious studios… scale both creatively and commercially” and has the backing of both Chinese games giant Tencent and the Department for Business and Trade. Those accepted onto the scheme receive “expert-led” sessions and a “structured curriculum” that is provided by Player One Consulting. Tencent is also providing insights to participants in the Video Games Growth Programme.

The 2026 cohort is divided into two groups; the Accelerator is for “emerging studios” while the Scale-up track is for companies that already are established, but want to grow further.

The Video Games Growth Programme debuted in 2024.

“The UK’s video games sector is a powerhouse of growth, high‑skilled talent and global reach. Generating over £2 billion in GVA and expanding faster than the wider creative industries, it fuels jobs and exports nationwide,” said Sir Chris Bryant, the UK minister of state, department for business and trade.

“Backed by our Modern Industrial Strategy – including the new £30 million Games Growth Package – the UK is strengthening regional clusters, supporting new studios and titles, and securing its position as Europe’s leading games market.”

UKIE CEO Nick Poole added: “We’re pleased to unveil our latest cohort, an exceptional group of studios that reflects the creativity, ambition and diversity of the UK video games industry. From advancing design and gameplay to nurturing talent across the UK, these studios demonstrate why the UK remains a global leader in video games. This Programme is about giving them the tools to scale with confidence, and we’re excited to support their next stage of growth.”
