Mega Crit’s deck-building sequel Slay the Spire 2 hit a peak of 574,638 concurrent players on Sunday according to SteamDB, almost equalling the high of 587,150 concurrent players set by Hollow Knight: Silksong in 2025.

Slay the Spire 2 released in Steam Early Access on Thursday March 5, and Video Game Insights estimates that it has sold 2.8 million units so far, generating an estimated $55.1 million in revenue. VGI also notes that the game still remains on 2.4 million Steam wish lists.

For comparison, the original Slay the Spire sold over 1.5 million units on Steam between its Early Access launch in 2017 and March 2019, with the official 1.0 launch coming on January 23, 2019. The game was later ported to consoles and mobile devices, and the publishing rights for the console versions were recently snapped up by Balor Games.

Back in 2019, roughly 43% of Slay the Spire’s sales came from China, and the sequel has seen a similar pattern. According to VGI, around 43% of Slay the Spire 2’s players are in China (with 51% in Asia overall), while roughly 25% of players are in North America and around 19% are in Europe.

Mega Crit switched over to the Godot engine for Slay the Spire 2, after publicly criticising Unity’s Runtime Fee policy in 2023. Emilio Coppola, the Godot Foundation’s executive director, told GamesIndustry.biz last year that the open-source Godot engine had seen a “huge increase in popularity” since the Unity Runtime Fee episode.

This article was updated to include more detail on player statistics from VGI.
