First-party PlayStation studio Dark Outlaw Games has been shut down.
The studio, founded by Treyarch veteran Jason Blundell last March, was working on an undisclosed project.
Sony confirmed the decision in a statement to PC Gamer, adding that it had made “several strategic adjustments to support long-term sustainability.”
“As part of this process, there were limited workforce reductions across select teams. We greatly appreciate the contributions of all those impacted,” the spokesperson said.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier broke the news on social media. He added that PlayStation “is making other cuts, including in mobile development,” reportedly affecting “around 50 people.”
According to ResetEra, the cuts have been made in the US and UK.
Before forming Dark Outlaw Games last year, Blundell founded Deviation Games with Dave Anthony in 2020. The studio signed a deal with PlayStation to create an original AAA IP.
Blundell left Deviation Games in 2022. A year later, the developer reportedly cut 99 roles. By March 2024, it had been shut down.
Last month, Sony confirmed the closure of remaster studio Bluepoint Games “following a recent business review.” 70 jobs were affected by this decision.
Bluepoint Games was known for co-developing God of War Ragnarok and delivering reissues of Demon’s Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, and Uncharted.
