Sony’s Metal Gear Solid film adaptation has gained momentum with Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, known for Final Destination: Bloodlines, now attached as directors.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lipovsky and Stein will replace Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who joined the project in 2014.
“Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionised video games,” said Lipovsky and Stein. “We are thrilled and honoured to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.”
Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch added: “Zach and Adam are thrilling storytellers, masters of visuals and suspense, and two of the most impressive directors/producers working today.
“With projects across all the company’s film labels, we are so happy to create a home for them, and proud to have them as part of the Sony family.”
Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima announced a film adaptation at E3 2006.
The project stalled for several years before resuming in 2012, when former Marvel CEO Avi Arad became attached as producer. In 2020, reports indicated that Oscar Isaac was set to star as Solid Snake.
