Details of an unannounced Tales Of remaster have popped up on the European rating board, PEGI.

As yet, Tales of Eternia Remastered has not been formally announced by publisher Bandai Namco, but according to PEGI (thanks, Gematsu), a remaster of the 2000 PSP game is on the way.

If you’re struggling to recall this Tales Of game, you’re totally forgiven — Tales of Eternia was actually known as Tales of Destiny II outside of Japan (which, confusingly enough, is a different game from the actual Tales of Destiny 2, which released in 2002). Originally released in 2000, the JRPG starts as a mysterious stranger delivers you an ominous message, and you learn that you have been chosen to step up and defend those who cannot defend themselves. It would later inspire a 13-episode anime series, too.

Curiously, despite previously being exclusive to PlayStation, PEGI only lists Tales of Eternia Remastered as coming to Nintendo Switch. It’s unclear if this is a mistake, an incomplete listing, or implicit evidence of a Switch exclusive, but watch this space — hopefully Bandai Namco will confirm soon. It looks like it was slapped with a PEGI 12 for “depictions of non-realistic looking violence towards human and fantasy characters,” as well as a little bad language.

A number of Tales Of games have already been remastered, of course, including Tales of Berseria Remastered, Tales of Grace f Remastered, and Tales of Symphonia Remastered. While most fans are delighted to see Eternia join the list, some players are a little more cynical, suggesting Bandai Namco should “slow down these remasters and put some actual effort in,” adding, “The Berseria remaster was a joke.”

It’s unclear right now what modern gaming options have been included, such as the ability to toggle enemy encounters on and off, which are staples of the more recent remastered games.

Last year, Bandai Namco announced a Tales of Remastered Program, starting with Tales of Graces f (although a Tales of Symphonia remaster was released the year prior). At the time, we asked producer Yuki Ishikawa about the very popular Tales of the Abyss, widely-regarded as one of the best Tales games, and whether it might be up for a remaster.

“If [a Tales of the Abyss remaster] could happen and I could share that joy with the rest of the fans, that’s something I’ll work hard towards,” Ishikawa said at the time.
