Spanish studio MercurySteam has “initiated a workforce adjustment process.”
Formed in 2002, MercurySteam has partnered with an impressive roster of collaborators, including American McGee, Clive Barker, and Konami’s Castlevania series, most recently releasing Blades of Fire in 2025.
It now says, however, that the “difficult and painful” decision to cut jobs is necessary as part of the “productions cycles of our industry.”
“There is no easy way to share this kind of news, but today we must communicate that MercurySteam has initiated a workforce adjustment process,” the company said in a statement posted to LinkedIn (thanks, GameDeveloper).
“While this is something common within the production cycles of our industry, it is nonetheless a difficult and painful situation.
“We want to express our deepest respect, gratitude, and support for the people affected, whose talent, effort, and commitment have been an important part of the studio’s history.” It then invited studios to reach out if they have any openings for experienced developers.
“Over the coming weeks, we will focus all our efforts on handling this process with the utmost responsibility, humanity, and respect for everyone involved,” the statement concluded.
It is not clear how many staff have been impacted by the cuts.
Just days after telling players that it wasn’t “going anywhere” after pausing production on its hero shooter that launched just a few weeks ago, Night Street Games has similarly made a “reduction” to its team.
