Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream led Circana’s US charts in April, generating over $41 million in combined physical and projected digital sales.
Living the Dream contributed to a 44% year-on-year increase in consumer spending on new physical software, reaching $96 million. Year-to-date spending rose by 9%.
Total spending on game content went up 2% in April to $3.8 billion. For the year so far, content spending is up 3% to $16.7 billion.
Capcom’s new IP Pragmata came in second overall and was April’s top seller on PlayStation platforms. It also placed second on PC storefronts, third on Xbox, and ranked in the top 15 on Nintendo platforms.
Total US video game spending reached $4.3 billion in April, a 3% year-on-year increase. Year-to-date spending is 5% higher than 2025, totaling $18.8 billion.
Hardware revenue grew 34% to $261 million, thanks to strong Nintendo Switch 2 sales. This growth offset declines in sales of the original Switch (down 69% YoY), Xbox Series X|S (down 43%), and PlayStation 5 (down 30%).
Switch 2 was the best-selling hardware in both units and dollars for April and for the year so far, with PlayStation 5 in second place. Nintendo’s share of hardware sales hit its highest point since July 2025.
Circana now lists the projected Top 10 best-selling games each month instead of the Top 20.
Data marked with a ^ includes actual sales figures from publishers who are part of the Digital Leader Panel.
Titles marked with an * include some projected digital sales. Depending on the publisher, platform, or storefront, some titles show both actual and projected digital sales.
As Circana senior director Mat Piscatella explained to Kotaku, the new methodology can “capture not only the success of a game like Windrose (which would not have been captured in prior reporting), but will also allow for more accurate relative performance reporting on titles from non-participating traditional publishers like Nintendo.”
“The advantage is that the charts will now much more accurately reflect the relative sales performance of video games in the market. The drawback is, as is the case with any projection, some range of error will naturally exist.
“Of course, we’d prefer all publishers to participate in digital sales sharing for the most accurate reporting.”
