Oblivion Remastered Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date Confirmed by Bethesda — And Yes, Its Physical Edition Includes a Cartridge

Bethesda will launch The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11, digitally via the eShop and in a physical edition that includes the full base game on a cartridge.

Boxed copies will include a proper cartridge (not a Game-Key Card) which also grants access to the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine story expansions (Bethesda is less clear about whether these are also on the card) and additional content you’ll have to download. Still, this isn’t a GTA 6 situation, with only a code in the game’s box.

This includes the Fighter’s Stronghold, Spell Tomes, Vile Lair, Mehrune’s Razor, The Thieves Den, Wizard’s Tower, The Orrery and the infamous Horse Armor Pack DLC. Finally, you’ll get a code that grants access to Akatosh and Mehruns Dagon armors, weapons and horse armor sets.

While that all sounds fine, fans have raised eyebrows at today’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Nintendo Switch 2 release date trailer, below, which is largely a two-minute live-action skit featuring the game’s notorious Adoring Fan character. Around 20 seconds of actual in-game footage are shown towards the end, which viewers have variously described as “choppy” and “rough.”

“This runs like nuclear ass on my 13700k/5090 rig, and on PS5/XSX as well,” noted one poster on video game forum ResetEra. “This is going to be a disaster…”

“On one hand, Fallout 4 was rough on Switch 2 at first too, but I think I remember hearing its issues got ironed out in the end,” countered another fan. “On the other hand, this is Oblivion Remastered, a game that makes my RTX 4080 cry.”

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered – Physical Deluxe Edition

In a press release sent to IGN, Bethesda confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is designed to run with DLSS support on both handheld and docked mode at 900p 30fps on handheld and 1080p 30fps while docked.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered originally launched for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S back in April 2025. “Oblivion Remastered is a fantastic modernization of an iconic open-world RPG, even if it maintains some of the jank and rough edges of the original, we wrote in IGN’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered review, which returned an 8/10. Physical and digital pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 version are now available.
