Mighty Doom developer Alpha Dog Games has reemerged as an independent studio after being shut down by Microsoft in 2024.
In a statement shared with GamesIndustry.biz, Alpha Dog Games co-founder Shawn Woods said it has “continued investing in the studio’s technology and development foundation” in recent months.
“We’re grateful to Microsoft for working with us through the transition and enabling Alpha Dog Games to return to independent ownership.”
“We’re incredibly excited to have the name we put so much effort and pride into building back in our hands,” said Woods.
Woods noted that while the developer is “not ready to discuss specific projects or long-term plans,” it is “exploring opportunities with partners, publishers, licensors, and others.”
“The excitement surrounding Alpha Dog Games over the past few days has honestly exceeded our expectations,” he added. “It has been humbling to see how much our games still mean to players around the world.”
“The passion from the community has reminded us just how special these experiences were, and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future may hold.”
Based in Nova Scotia, Alpha Dog Games was founded in 2012 by Woods and Jeff Cameron.
Bethesda acquired Alpha Dog Games in October 2019.
It was one of four Bethesda studios closed by Xbox, along with Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, and Roundhouse.
