Irish startup Entity has raised $5.8 million (€5 million) in seed funding to build a browser-based gaming platform it says will deliver console-quality games without downloads or installs.

As reported by GamesBeat, the Dublin-based company was founded in 2024 and plans to launch the platform in early 2027, with an opening slate mixing existing PC and console titles with original IP.

The platform runs on WebGPU and WebAssembly, letting players jump into a game or multiplayer lobby from a single link. Unlike cloud gaming, nothing streams from a remote server, so there’s no round trip or lag to manage.

ACT, Delta Partners, and Elkstone backed the round, with support from Enterprise Ireland and a group of games industry angel investors.

Entity was founded by Rich Barnwell, Kev Bergin, Dave McGovern, Fergus Duggan, and Artur Stawiarski, who previously built Digit, the Irish studio behind Star Trek Fleet Command, which Scopely acquired in 2019. They’re joined by head of games Paul Farley, founder of Firestoke, Tag Games, and ChiliConnect, later acquired by Scopely and Unity, respectively.

“The way games are made, discovered, and played in the ‘new web’ era is fundamentally changing, and these games will need a new home,” said Entity CEO and founder Rich Barnwell. “For too long the industry has been shackled by friction-heavy downloads and arbitrary constraints.”

“With Entity, we are bringing the platform that the modern gamer needs: console-quality gaming experiences instantly accessible on whatever device they are using,” Barnwell added. “With the backing of our new investors and an expert, supportive angel group, Entity delivers a new way to play and a new way to think about the games console experience.”
