1047 Games is ending active development on Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, moving both titles to peer-to-peer hosting as the studio signals a broader shift away from live service shooters after ten years.
In a post on X earlier today, the studio said neither game is generating enough revenue to cover the ongoing cost of dedicated servers. It said it had kept covering those costs to give both titles a chance to grow, but had reached a point where doing so was “no longer sustainable.”
“We have loved working on these games, playing them, and building them with this community, and we wish we could continue supporting them,” the studio said.
From September 3, dedicated servers and matchmaking will shut down for both games, moving them to peer-to-peer hosting with a server browser instead, so players can continue hosting and finding matches. Empulse will get one final new map and a price cut across all regions as part of what the studio called the game’s final update.
1047 Games took the same approach with the original Splitgate, which moved to peer-to-peer hosting last year after its dedicated servers went offline, and remains playable today, including on console.
Splitgate 2 released in June 2025 amid a flurry of controversy, which included a MAGA-style “Make FPS Great Again” hat and a $145 cosmetic bundle. Within a month, 1047 Games laid off an undisclosed number of developers, and then a month later, pushed the game “back to beta” and initiated a second wave of layoffs.
Meanwhile, Empulse – a 6v6 movement shooter pitched as a spiritual successor to Titanfall – only entered early access in June 2026. Multiple rounds of layoffs followed within weeks.
Founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian said the studio’s focus is now “changing” after a decade built around live service shooters, and that whatever it builds next “may look very different” from what people expect from 1047 Games.
“We started 1047 Games ten years ago because we love video games,” the co-founders said. “Since then, more than 25 million people have played our games, and many of the people we’ve met along the way have become lifelong friends.
“After ten years of focusing on live service shooters, our focus is changing. What we build next may look very different from what people expect from 1047 Games, but what has not changed is why we are here: we love making games. We have learned a lot over the years, and we will carry those lessons into what we build next.”
The statement does not address staffing, although 1047 Games has already been through prior rounds of layoffs, most recently in July, weeks after Empulse’s launch. It isn’t yet clear whether today’s announcement means further cuts.
