It’s State of Play time, and IGN will be reporting live on all the gameplay reveals, trailers, and announcements as they happen right here in our live blog. The action kicks off on September 3 starting at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm UK / 3pm CEST / 10pm JST.
Sony has two State of Play broadcasts set for today airing back-to-back (IGN will be carrying the stream). The first is a new State of Play that features updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners. It concludes with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy ender, Revelation.
Right after that, we’ll get a new State of Play Japan, which focuses on games from studios in Japan and Asia. Expect new gameplay, announcements, and more from that one.
We’ve got a What to Expect From PlayStation’s State of Play September 2026 article packed with our speculation live now, but my feeling is that Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet may end up being the star of the show. It’s been some time since we’ve seen the game, so a September State of Play feels like an appropriate venue for an update.
Elsewhere, there are a number of PlayStation Studios that have been quiet for some time now. Dreams and LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule is among them, as is Days Gone developer Bend Studio. Will we see Firesprite’s Until Dawn 2? And what about Haven Studios’ Fairgame? Sony’s live service ambition has fallen apart, but the last time I checked, Fairgame was still alive.

Metro 2039 PS5 Pro gameplay and release date
4A Games revealed a first look at upcoming shooter Metro 2039 running on PS5 Pro. The game looked fantastic in the footage shown during State of Play, with an impressive level of detail and atmospheric lighting throughout the creepy gameplay. Eventually the shooting starts, and we see the protagonist fight against a number of human enemies in a building. Outside, a storm is brewing, and the player seeks cover before it breaks. We also got a release date reveal: Metro 2039 is out February 4, 2027.
Monster Hunter Wilds expansion Ascendance
State of Play treated Monster Hunter fans to a look at Wilds expansion Ascendance, due out in 2027.
Ghost of Yotei Most Wanted
Sucker Punch showed off Ghost of Yotei Most Wanted, the upcoming single-player combat-survival roguelike mode included in the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, launching on October 1, 2026, for PlayStation 5. The footage ended with a look at Jin Sakai, the main playable character in Ghost of Tsushima. He’s playable in Ghost of Yotei via Most Wanted.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Sony issued one last look at Marvel’s Wolverine, which is out this month exclusively on PS5. The trailer shows Wolverine fighting Trask’s Sentinels as well as co-op gameplay with Sabretooth. The trailer ends with the heroes fighting an enormous Sentinel as they hunt for Trask himself.
Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil
State of Play kicked off with a fresh look at Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie. The clip shown is the much talked about scene in which zombies fall from rooftops onto the street as star Austin Abrams runs for his life. This is the scene Cregger said Abrams almost died from a falling zombie!
Cregger also popped up with a message to fans. Cregger’s Resident Evil hits theaters September 18, 2026.

30 minutes to go!
30 minutes until State of Play kicks off, and already people are spamming the livestream chat with #WeWantDestiny. Given what’s going on with extraction shooter Marathon and developer Bungie’s abandonment of Destiny 2, it probably comes as little surprise to see Destiny fans mobilize around this State of Play broadcast. The thing is, it feels extremely unlikely that Sony will green light a Destiny 3, which would surely be yet another risky expensive development project at this point. But could Bungie have more Destiny in some shape or form in the works? With Marathon struggling for player numbers, how long will Sony give it before the axe falls on that game, too?
