Fans of GTA 6 are already copying items from the game’s $400 collector’s edition and 3D-printing them for a far cheaper price.
On September 24, Rockstar revealed a special, $400 collector’s edition for GTA 6… except it doesn’t actually come with the game. Despite putting up nearly half a rack, players won’t get the game itself; instead, it comes with a bunch of GTA 6-branded merchandise.
The bundle includes items like a cartoon alligator figure, stickers, pins, a hat, and a pair of Oakley sunglasses, which is probably where most of the cost is coming from. And while fans can’t exactly copy those, they are 3D printing copies of a at least one trinket in the collection.
One of the most viral examples of this is a recreation of the game’s Macca the Alligator mascot, which has been fully modeled and uploaded as a printable file online. And rather than paying $400, fans can simply support its creator by paying what they want.
Reactions to this workaround have been extremely divided; some fans are giving the copycat props for their creative solution to a pricey problem, while others are rallying against them, saying that making a 3D copy completely defeats the purpose of buying a rare item.
“Why would you print it if it already lost its main and only purpose, which is rarity?” one user asked on X/Twitter.

“Dude, I’m all for criticizing the price, but this is just f**king stupid,” another argued.
“I imagined this would happen, but not so soon… That said, I want one,” another commenter admitted.
“This is the coolest thing! I only wanted this [figure], but I wasn’t about to drop $400 to get it,” another wrote.
The GTA 6 collector’s edition has sparked a viral debate within the broader gaming community, with many comparing it to the Red Dead Redemption 2 collector’s edition, which was far cheaper and had comparatively cooler, more game-specific items. It only cost $100, and even came with some in-game goodies like a physical version of the game’s map.
The $400 price tag for GTA 6’s collector’s edition without an actual game to show for it is rubbing salt in the wound for gamers who are mourning the lack of a true physical disc. The ‘physical’ version of GTA 6 is in name only; it’ll get a case, but only a downloadable code inside. And while this is likely part of Rockstar’s plans to stop early leaks, players can’t help but point to Sony’s plans to end the production of physical game discs completely by January 2028.
