War for Roshar Kickstarter Campaign Is Now Live

Brandon Sanderson and Brotherwise Games have officially launched the Kickstarter campaign for War of Roshar, a new strategy board game. Sanderson has been calling this “the big one” in the leadup to this campaign and the fans seem to agree. More than $1 million has already been pledged in the first day, with 23 days left to go.

War for Roshar will join a growing lineup of Cosmere board games in collaboration with Brotherwise. IGN had an exclusive first look at the game earlier this year and loved what we saw. It’s a massive tabletop war game that strikes the balance between strategic analysis and abstract gameplay. The theme of the game is rooted deeply in Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series and includes a wealth of art from over 30 different artists.

If you’re looking to back this project, there are a number of options available. The featured pledge, called Fifth Ideal, is what will get you pretty much everything. At $295 this tier includes the base game, the Champions Expansion, 3D components, custom card sleeves, and wooden tokens. You’ll also get a few different miniatures for the Cosmere RPG, including Mistborn ones from Era 1 and Era 2 to go with the upcoming expansion of that game.

If you don’t care about the extra add-ons for the Cosmere RPG, the other four tiers will get you some variation of these items. For just the base game, you can pledge $90 to get access to the retail version as soon as it ships.

As for when the game will actually release, the campaign includes an estimated delivery date of November 2027. This will likely vary depending on where your game is getting shipped to, but Sanderson has a reputation for delivering high-quality products on time for all of his crowdfunding projects.

This is far from the first crowdfunding project that Sanderson has seen enormous success with. Just earlier this year he launched a massive campaign for Hoid’s Storybook Collection that ended up raising more than $11 million. IGN’s Jordan Comstock went hands-on with those books after they arrived and had no regrets with his choice to back the project.

And prior to that project, Brotherwise game initially funded the Cosmere RPG via kickstarter back in 2024 with a whopping $15 million pledged. So while War for Roshar is off to a great start, we’ll have to wait and see if it has the potential to become Sanderson’s most successful crowdfunding campaign of all time within his Cosmere universe.
