Remedy Boss Celebrates After Control Resonant Sells 1 Million Copies, Becoming Studio’s Fastest-Selling Game

Control Resonant has sold one million copies, becoming Remedy’s fastest-selling game in spite of leakers cracking the title and pirating it after its digital launch in September.

Remedy celebrated this milestone on October 15, writing on Twitter/X, “Thank you for the support. For playing, sharing, and being a part of the community.”

Remedy’s communications director Thomas Puha also commented on this achievement, saying, “There we go. Strong start.”

This means that Control Resonant has soared past Alan Wake 2, which previously held the record for the studio’s fastest-selling title. The legacy sequel reached one million copies sold two months after its release; Control Resonant has achieved that figure in just three weeks.

This is welcome news for both Remedy and fans of the game, many of whom urged players against downloading the pirated version of the title when it launched digitally in late September. It seems this wasn’t a crippling setback for the developer, though, given its current financial success — and physical editions of the game have just now been released, so there’s still more profit to be had.

Control Resonant was met with critical acclaim among both reviewers and players alike. We at IGN scored it an eight out of 10, with reviewer Michael Higham saying, “Even when combat’s sharp edge eventually dulls, Control Resonant is a great addition to the Remedyverse. While its story follows a more standard framework, its gravitational pull is in the inventive world built around it and the humanization that grounds the paranatural intrigue.”

In fact, the game was so good that many internet pirates decided against illegally downloading it, choosing instead to support Remedy in the hopes that its success would help keep the studio alive.

“One of the very few games I’m going to be buying, Remedy are on the brink of bankruptcy, this is their make or break title, I love their games and gotta do what I can to keep them afloat,” wrote one fan on a piracy subreddit.

“I wasn’t planning to buy it but now I feel like I should,” another said. “I like Remedy. They do good games.”

Remedy is known for titles like the original Control game, Alan Wake 2, Max Payne, and Quantum Break. And while their offerings have been met with high praise from players, they aren’t necessarily tailored for mass appeal, leaving some gamers worried about the developer’s future — but if these latest figures are anything to go by, it seems to be faring just fine.
