Ubisoft Shares Cryptic Assassins Creed Codename Hexe Update

Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe was announced all the way back in 2022, but aside from a spooky teaser, we still don’t know much about it. In a new blog post, Ubisoft has shared a cryptic clue that may shed some light on the project — if you’re able to decode it, that is.

In the blog post, Ubisoft laid out its vision for the future of Assassin’s Creed, and, of course, Codename Hexe is a big part of that future. At first glance, the update on the upcoming game is vague; the blog post simply says, “We’re making steady progress on this darker Assassin’s Creed experience, though there is still work ahead of us. We know the wait has been long, and we’re grateful for your patience and continued enthusiasm for the project.”

But it seems like more concrete updates will be coming next year, with the post continuing, “The team remains focused on delivering the unique vision at the heart of this project, and we’ll share our next major update in 2027.” That’s pretty much all the information about Hexe that Ubisoft has shared, so it seems like we’ll have to wait until next year to get some concrete information about the game.

Ubisoft did include a little clue for dedicated players with a knack for decyphering coded messages, though. After the Codename Hexe entry, Ubisoft simply writes: “ZKLWAVN MBEXNK ULYCNJ… LWY01… I#########F // QNTMAKHX TWTEMZL. YSIZKQ AADSWX NFAAMPHP.//” I’m not sure what that means, if anything, but I’m sure that fans will be able to decode it eventually.

Whatever it ends up being called, Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe is likely to be the first mainline Assassin’s Creed game after 2025’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Other than the spooky theme of its only teaser, we don’t know much about when it’s going to take place, but I’d imagine that witchcraft is going to be a major theme.

We know little else about the game so far. Earlier this year, a leaker suggested a popular Assassin’s Creed character would be returning. We’ve also heard that the game has been reworked internally to change some of its more magical elements. It has also gone through some staffing shakeups earlier this year, after the game director and creative director left the project.
