Perplexity Could be Default AI Assistant on Samsung Galaxy S26 as Part of ‘Wide-Ranging’ Deal: Report

Samsung could equip next year’s Galaxy S26 series of smartphones with Perplexity’s AI assistant, as part of a “wide-ranging” deal, according to a Bloomberg report. The South Korean tech conglomerate could also incorporate AI features from Perplexity across its apps, including Samsung Internet and Bixby, it’s virtual assistant. Perplexity has already partnered with Motorola to integrate its AI assistant on the company’s smartphones. Apple is also said to have discussed the addition of Perplexity as a search engine and plugin for Siri, as alternatives to Google and ChatGPT, respectively.

Samsung Internet, Bixby Could Also Get Perplexity Upgrades

Citing people with knowledge of the matter, a Bloomberg report states that Samsung is close to signing a deal with Perplexity to integrate the latter’s AI features on the company’s smartphones. As part of the deal, Samsung could offer access to Perplexity as the default AI assistant on its next generation of smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S26 series.

While Perplexity could be the default assistant option on the Galaxy S26 series, it will also be integrated with other Samsung apps, as part of the deal. For example, the Bixby, which has fallen behind Google’s virtual assistant, could be upgraded with Perplexity. Similarly, the Samsung Internet browser could offer support for Perplexity’s search features, as per the report.

Samsung currently offers Galaxy smartphone owners to access its Galaxy AI suite of features, as well as Google’s Gemini assistant and features like Circle to Search. If the company reaches a deal with Perplexity, it could provide users with an alternative assistant that is capable of performing actions on behalf of a user, just like Gemini.

Meanwhile, Apple has reportedly been considering Perplexity as an AI-powered search option for Safari. Google has been the default search engine on Apple’s devices, but the Cupertino company is said to be considering Perplexity as an alternative to Google.

Samsung would not be the first smartphone maker to partner with Perplexity to its devices. Earlier this year, Motorola tied up with the AI firm as part of a deal to ship the Perplexity AI assistant on Motorola handsets.

The successors to the Galaxy S25 series of smartphones aren’t expected to debut until January 2026, if the company’s previous launch timelines are any indication. As a result, it’s best to take these claims with a touch of salt, and we’re likely to learn more about the company’s upcoming smartphones in the coming months.
