Atreus has learned a great deal of combat lessons from his father, Kratos. Yet, as Atreus ages, and Ragnarok approaches in God of War Ragnarok, Atreus must find his independence. This independence is aided by his determination and abilities from his bow and arrow, which will see him fight off some of the harshest threats in the Nine Realms.
With Atreus by Kratos’ side, or even as his own character, he can access four bow abilities across God of War Ragnarok. Yet, which of Atreus’s bow abilities is worth investing in, and what is it that they do that can change how players fight in God of War Ragnarok?
4 Splintered Sigil
Open the Legendary Chest in Asgard in The Runaway
- Atreus fires a seeking Sigil Arrow that ricochets between enemies.
With the two arrow types at the ready, Atreus can use Splintered Sigil to fire off a Sigil Arrow that will ricochet between targets, and further upgrades will see the arrow split itself to hit all enemies around it. It’s great for dishing out damage and runic attacks, but runic might not be to everyone’s taste due to its dependence on elemental response from force, frost, or flame from Kratos’s mighty weapons.
Splintered Sigil is used best for Atreus’s independence, allowing him to quickly fire off his bow ability while Kratos is busy fighting through the army in front of him. It has decent synergy, but the use of runic energy makes it rather dependent on a keen eye rather than focusing on raw damage.
3 Sharpshooter Stare
Defeat the Bergsra Mother in The Lost Sanctuary, Jotunheim
- Slow down time and shoot three empowered arrows by Pressing R1
A great ability for solo play with Atreus, Sharpshooter Stare allows players to slow down time for precise shots, with three empowered arrows dealing more concentrated damage than normal. This ability, even paired with Kratos, provides a great level of damage and stun to make Atreus stand out when fighting with his father’s Leviathan Axe and other tools.
A brutal level of stun and high damage truly aids Atreus with this bow ability, as it can easily keep opponents off of Kratos’s back through distraction, and deal a decent chunk of damage when dealing with high-health bosses.
2 Stinging Barrage
Unlocked at the Start of Old Friends
- Fires a powerful single shot of several arrows at once that collide with heavy impact.
Dealing moderate stun and low damage, the Stinging Barrage can be useful for its ability to fire a powerful single shot of arrows, colliding with a heavy impact to stagger enemies out of attacks. While it’s not the fastest nor the best, it does have its usefulness when Atreus is fending for himself in an epic battle against lesser enemies.

Every God Of War Game, Ranked
One of PlayStation’s flagship franchises, Santa Monica Studio’s God of War has produced plenty of great games. Naturally, some are better than others.
It might not be the most effective against the fiercest troubles of the Nine Realms, but it’s certainly going to get the job done with a focus on damage and stun. Despite its potential, it’s simply held back by other abilities that players will unlock later in the game.
1 Falling Sky
Open the Legendary Chest in Helheim in Unleashing Hel
- Fires a cascade of disruptive Sonic Arrows to bombard the area.
A lengthy cooldown doesn’t stop Falling Sky from being a great bow ability, as with this one in quiver, Atreus will unleash a cascade of disruptive Sonic Arrows. Sonic Arrows are great for creating stun, so pairing that with an ability where Atreus can bombard the area is a great time for father and son as they fight their way through Ragnarok itself.
Further upgrades to this ability will see advancements in damage, runic, and stun, meaning it’s the most versatile of the bunch for its potential in all three bow ability categories. It’s just a shame that it has a higher cooldown than most.
