As much potential as the Star Wars Jedi franchise could have if it was extended further than a trilogy, it seems fitting that Cal Kestis’ journey should end in a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The series has been great so far at remaining compartmentalized and airtight in its narrative, probably as a result of it not being able to make any strides that would retcon established timeline lore, and since Cal and the Stinger Mantis crew aren’t seen or referenced elsewhere yet in Star Wars media it’s presumed that their story will leave a fairly insignificant mark on the lore when all is said and done.
The other possibility is that the crew doesn’t make a splash in the overarching mythology due to them not being around much longer after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and meeting an untimely demise. This is already true of Cere Junda, lending credence to this belief, and there’s still time in a third Jedi game for Merrin and Greez Dritus to potentially have similar ends. Merrin’s death would surely take a huge toll on Cal if it was to occur, and yet Greez’s fate being sealed was teased in Fallen Order when the Haxion Brood was introduced. Plus, with the Haxion Brood being no less persistent in their pursuit, Greez’s luck in hiding out all this time could finally catch up to him in a third entry.
Star Wars Jedi’s Greez Dritus is Living on Borrowed Time with the Haxion Brood Around
The Haxion Brood has been tailing Greez now since Fallen Order and, with the Latero slowing and settling down, it might only be a matter of time before the criminal syndicate catches up to him. The Haxion Brood hasn’t been a terribly formidable thorn in the Stinger Mantis crew’s side besides Cal and BD-1 being kidnapped and imprisoned on Ordo Eris, but they were able to escape relatively easily and have swiftly cut down any bounty hunter laid in their path since.
If the Haxion Brood has anything going for it, though, it’s an unwavering persistence. As long as Sorc Tormo is around, the Haxion Brood may be a constant nuisance—maybe not on Tanalorr, but given Star Wars Jedi’s tendency to planet-hop, it is unlikely that Cal and the Stinger Mantis crew will spend all of their time on the anchorites’ newfound hiding place.
Stakes haven’t often been high for anyone on the Stinger Mantis crew, but Cere’s death might suggest that nobody is safe as long as a great threat is actively hunting them. Darth Vader pursued Cere specifically, and that—coupled with the fact that Darth Vader was seemingly gravely injured in their fight—is written as the reason why he doesn’t stick around to kill Cal.
Greez is the Backbone of the Stinger Mantis Crew and Cannot Be Made Obsolete
Because Greez is at the root of why bounty hunters are a problem at all, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Haxion Brood still had a score to settle with him, too. If Cal wasn’t standing in their way, or if they managed to find Greez while he and Cal were separated, it’s highly likely that Greez’s life could be in danger and incite a rescue quest in a third installment if nothing else.
Greez successfully navigated the Koboh Abyss with Cal’s Force assistance in tune and Cere’s ghostly guidance, and if Cal has retrieved the compass from Bode Akuna there may be no more pressing need for Greez to be around and pilot the Mantis.
Greez wasn’t needed to pilot the Mantis throughout Survivor, either, but his company is always enjoyable when returning to the ship. Therefore, Greez could be shelved as a character by planting him firmly on Tanalorr to live out the rest of his days in peace without having to look over his shoulder as he rightfully deserves.
