A translator formerly employed by Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 studio Warhorse Studios claims he has been “fired and replaced with AI.”

In a statement posted to Reddit reportedly verified by the Kingdom Come moderation team, translator Max H. alleges he was pulled into a meeting on March 27 and told, with “no forewarning,” that “in an effort to ‘make the company more effective’ and ‘save finances,” his position was to be made “‘obsolete’ in favor of using AI for all translations going forward.”

The translator – who’d been with Warhorse Studios for almost four years – shared his shock and dismay at the decision, but claimed that while discussions about using AI for translating “had frequently come up in the past, something I was always strongly and vocally against [… it was] never to the extent that it might actually cost me my job in the future.”

“It had, of course, crossed my mind many times, but I naively thought my work at WHS was valued enough that I might not be at immediate risk,” he explained.

After sharing his “heartbreak” at not seeing his colleagues at the office, Max said: “I want you to know that the growing use of AI greatly affects people in the games industry and many others, and I thought you should know how much the company that makes the games you love value the work of their employees, not to mention the environment.

“To all management at Warhorse, I won’t be breaking my NDA, of course, nor am I looking for my job back or to start legal issues, but you can be damn sure I won’t keep quiet about my experience.”

Warhorse has yet to publicly comment on the allegations. GamesIndustry.biz has reached out for comment.
