Stormind Games, the independent Italian studio which created the Remothered series and recently supported 2K Games and Hangar 13 in delivering the Sicilian location of Mafia: The Old Country, has completed a new round of investment to fund development of new games.

The additional investment will be used to support the Sicily-based studio in developing a project tied to a Hollywood IP, following its previous work delivering horror title A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead. That was published by Saber Interactive, and set in the world of Paramount’s Quiet Place films. The studio previously shipped indie release Batora: Lost Haven with Team 17, following the success of its own Remothered series.

CEO Antonio Cannata has previously told GamesIndustry.biz of his ambition for the business, which he wanted to grow into a multi-title studio while retaining its independence and its Italian spirit. “We’re extremely ambitious to create something that could never have been done before in Italy. We don’t want to have some pressure from outside [investors or owners],” he said.

“We want to create something iconic using our own resources. We [Italians] come from a legacy of poets and artists. We have a very, very artistic approach to things and an Italian way of doing things. We are trying to show that… while also maintaining the international approach on how we design and write games because, of course, they are meant for everybody, not just for Italian people.”

In keeping with this philosophy, the new funding round was lead by Marsa Holding, a family office focused on ventures in Southern Italy, and supported by Italian finance institutions Intesa Sanpaolo and Mediocredito Centrale. Marsa Holding has taken a 10% stake in Stormind Holding as part of the deal.

“This milestone marks a key step in Stormind Games’ growth,” said Cannata, highlighting that the partnership will enable the studio to scale production capacity and co-finance major projects with leading publishers.
