The PlayStation Portal has become the “most widely used device for PlayStation 5 Remote Play, surpassing mobile, PC, PS5, and PS4,” according to a Sony executive.
Speaking to TechRadar, Sony senior manager of product management Takuro Fushimi said while the Portal “continues to be a complimentary device” to the PS5, the platform’s users “are more engaged than non-users.”
“Before we launched the Portal, some questioned whether there would be demand for it, as it is such a unique product being a dedicated Remote Play device to start off with,” Fushimi noted.
“However, we’ve seen the community’s response has been overwhelming.”
This data comes after the PS Portal received its biggest update to date, enabling PlayStation Plus Premium users to stream select games directly from PS servers rather than connecting to a PS5 console.
The update has been in beta for a year, with players being able to stream games including Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Ghost of Yōtei, and Cyberpunk 2077.
Earlier today, Sony published its latest financial results for the first half of its fiscal year, reporting a rise in sales for its Game & Network Services division.
It also revealed that the PS5 has moved up to 84.2 million lifetime units, with an additional 3.9 million sold during the second quarter.
