Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for “every server and every player” to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.
Rockstar Games announced the acquisition of Cfx.re, a Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 modding team, back in 2023. Cfx.re is behind two servers, FiveM and RedM, focusing on multiplayer role play. FiveM was created in 2015, and RedM in 2019.
Back in 2015, Rockstar Games and partner company Take-Two called the FiveM server “an unauthorized alternate multiplayer server that contains code to facilitate piracy,” leading to the ban of three of its principal creators.
However, the developer’s policy for roleplay servers changed in November 2022, allowing the use of servers like FiveM and RedM so long as they are non-commercial, do not misuse IP or trademarks, and don’t interfere with its official online and multiplayer services.
This new “curated digital storefront” now hopes to give creators a place to share and sell their work, such as props, scripts, maps, “and much more.”
For launch, the team has partnered with a curated list of creators, which Rockstar says it worked with while building the marketplace. Some of the listed mods are free, while bundles can cost several hundred dollars.
The project will roll out in stages to “ensure the best experience for both creators and servers owners.”
