In Phase 2 of Satisfactory, players will unlock the ability to create Steel products like Steel Ingots, Steel Pipes, and Steel Beams by completing a milestone in the HUB terminal.
Even after reaching the relevant milestone, players may still be unable to craft Steel, as the recipe requires an additional material they may not have unlocked yet.
How to Unlock Steel in Satisfactory
Steel production in Satisfactory can be unlocked by completing the ‘Basic Steel Production’ milestone in Tier 3 of the HUB terminal upgrades. Steel Beams, Steel Pipes, and Steel Ingots are unlocked here as well. The following materials are needed to complete this milestone:
- Modular Frame x50
- Rotor x150
- Concrete x500
- Wire x1000
How to Make Steel Ingots in Satisfactory
Steel Ingots are the primary Steel building blocks and are considered an Alloy of Iron Ore and Coal. Alloys can only be crafted using the Foundry, a type of building that is unlocked by the very same milestone that unlocks Steel. While Iron Ore production should already be automated by this stage of the game, Coal might be a different story. Coal production is unlocked after completing the Coal Power milestone in Tier 3.
- 3 Coal + 3 Iron Ore = 3 Steel Ingot
If players unlock Basic Steel Production before finishing Coal Power, there is no way to produce any Steel products. This is because all Steel items are essentially refinements of Steel Ingots, which themselves can only be crafted using Coal.
Steel Ingots can be refined into both Steel Pipes and Steel Beams using a Constructor or a Crafting Bench.
- 3 Steel Ingot = 2 Steel Pipes
- 4 Steel Ingot = 1 Steel Beam
How to Build a Foundry in Satisfactory
To build a Foundry, you need the following materials:
- Modular Frame x10
- Rotor x10
- Concrete x20
Both Rotors and Modular Frames are unlocked by completing the Part Assembly milestone in Tier 2 of the HUB terminal. Concrete is processed Limestone.
