Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye will contribute to Amazon’s God of War adaptation.

As Deadline reports, Toye will reportedly direct the first two episodes. He is known for his work on other Amazon series including Fallout, The Boys and The Terminal List.

Toye won an Emmy for his work on the FX historical drama series Shōgun, of which he directed four episodes.

The director also worked on episodes of Lost, American Gods, The Walking Dead, Watchmen, Westworld, and Snowpiercer.

Toye joins showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who also serves as writer and executive producer.

Moore joined the team last October following the departure of original showrunner Rafe Judkins alongside producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.

Pre-production of Amazon’s God of War adaptation is currently underway in Vancouver, and is set to air for two seasons.

It will be co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios alongside PlayStation Productions and Moore’s Tall Ship Productions.

Sony Pictures Entertainment initially announced Amazon’s God of War series in 2022 in tandem with a Gran Turismo film produced by Columbia Pictures and a Horizon series on Netflix.

The Gran Turismo film released in 2023, while the Horizon series was reportedly cancelled following a Rolling Stone report that accused its showrunner of “toxic, bullying, manipulative, and retaliatory behaviour.”

Earlier this year, Sony announced that the Horizon project would now be a film, and will be produced by Columbia Pictures in partnership with PlayStation Productions.

A Helldivers 2 adaptation was also announced alongside the Horizon movie. The Hollywood Reporter recently announced that Fast and Furious director Justin Lin will direct the movie.

Lin will also produce the adaptation, with screenwriter Gary Dauberman (It, Annabelle) on board to pen the script.
