Stockholm-based developer Moon Rover Games is pausing operations after being unable to secure funds for its in-development project, Aldous.
In a post on LinkedIn, the studio said that it was looking for ways to carry on and has asked interested parties to reach out with support.
The Swedish developer was founded back in 2023 by veterans of Ubisoft, DICE and Paradox.
“It is with a heavy heart that we today announce that Moon Rover Games has been unable to secure funding to continue the development of our game Project Aldous and is therefore halting operations as we continue to look for solutions to continue our journey,” the company wrote.
“When we founded this studio in Stockholm, we set out with a simple but ambitious vision: to build a human-sized studio where creative generosity and a laser focus on the player experience would enable us to tell unique stories and gameplay experiences.
“We are proud of the progress we have delivered with Project Aldous, but most of all we are proud of the team that we built around the values of the studio, and what each and every one of them brought to the table, inside or outside the software.”
Moon Rover concluded: “We thank our partners, colleagues, friends and families for their support on this journey, and look forward to what comes next. As you read this announcement and believe you can help, do not hesitate to reach out.”
In 2024, Moon Rover secured a $3.5 million investment from NCSoft. This was said to be the start of a “long-term partnership”, with the Korean giant’s co-CEO Byungmoo Park saying that Project Aloud would “enhance” its portfolio “in terms of genre diversity and regional reach”.
