Wizards of the Coast has ended its publishing agreement with Giant Skull, leading to the cancellation of an action-adventure game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
As reported by Bloomberg, a spokesperson for Hasbro’s subsidiary said that while it “decided not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull” it has “great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship.”
They added that it will continue to consider new project proposals from Giant Skull.
Giant Skull founder Asmussen stated the developer is in discussions with Hasbro and other companies regarding future publishing agreements. “Things are good at Giant Skull,” he said.
Wizards of the Coast and Giant Skull announced their partnership last June.
At that time, Asmussen stated the developer’s goal was to “craft a rich new Dungeons & Dragons universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat, and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace.”
In 2024, Hasbro told Gamesindustry.biz it invested $1 billion in internal game development.
Wizards of the Coast is currently partnering with Archetype Studios on Exodus and with Invoke Studios on Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons.
According to Bloomberg, the decision to end the partnership coincided with a broader reorganisation at Wizards of the Coast. This included closing its internal developer Atomic Arcade.
Giant Skull was founded in 2024 and is staffed by veterans from Electronic Arts’ Respawn studio.
Asmussen previously served as game director for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
