GTA 6 Leaker Escalates Crypto Scheme With Further Threats

The GTA 6 leaker has reportedly threatened to release a build of the game with the full story mode played to the end, as part of their heavily criticized crypto scheme.

According to online reports, the Cyberleek website was updated with a warning that if its memecoin reached a market cap of $30 million, a build of GTA 6 would be released featuring the full story mode including end credits. In the alleged online warning, Cyberleek once again framed their GTA 6 leaks as a protest against the lack of a physical disc version of the game, and allegedly called on Take-Two to release GTA 6 on-disc and issue an apology. It is unclear whether Cyberleek intends to release a build of the game online, or means to release a full playthrough of GTA 6 in video form.

A cryptocurrency market capitalization (market cap) is the total dollar value of all the coins or tokens of a digital asset currently in circulation. At the time of this article’s publication, Cyberleek had a market cap of $3.8 million, having spiked at $5.7 million earlier today as reports of the message hit social media. It seems unlikely that it will get anywhere near $30 million.

Here’s Cyberleek’s statement in full:

The Offer

Here’s the deal, nice and clean. CYBERLEEK hits 30 million marketcap, the build goes out — full story mode, played to the end, credits and all. Don’t believe it has full story mode? Ask for what you want to see, and it gets provided. Take-Two gets one way out: physical disks and a public apology. They can take it at any moment. Or they can gamble that CL is bluffing. Everyone knows which one they’ll pick.

Cyberleek also issued market cap goals tied to the clothing Lucia would wear in subsequent leaked gameplay. For example, at $2 million, Cyberleek threatened to release gameplay showing Lucia wearing a bikini. According to Cyberleek, a $4 million market cap would mean releasing gameplay with Lucia “fully naked.”

However, there is significant skepticism about Cyberleek’s support of physical media, with many accusing the leaker of running a cryptocurrency scam. Fans have heavily criticized Cyberleek and anyone who spends money on their memecoin. “What a dork,” one person said. “Anyone who puts money into this deserves to lose it all.”

Cyberleek appeared to go dark after a spate of high-profile GTA 6 leaks in August that sparked an investigation from Rockstar parent company Take-Two. The film issued subpoenas to the likes of Discord as part of the hunt for the person or group of people responsible. But Cyberleek reemerged this week with the release of a 24-minute GTA 6 gameplay video that showed cutscenes, story beats, playable characters Jason and Lucia naked (in the case of Jason, full-frontal nudity), and a first-person camera.

It remains unclear how the gameplay footage, or any potential build of the game it’s taken from, escaped the confines of Rockstar’s infamous tight security. This week’s developments suggest Cyberleek remains at large and defiant in the face of potential legal action.

In August, Rockstar addressed the GTA 6 leaks, describing the situation as “heartbreaking” for its development team and “unfortunate” for fans. At the time, the developer acknowledged that its intended experience for players “may now be impacted by some spoilers,” but reiterated GTA 6’s previously-confirmed launch date of November 19.

Analysis of cryptocurrency transactions in late August pointed to the GTA 6 leaker having “cashed out,” earning around $270,000 in the process. Every video posted by Cyberleek pointed to a website where fans could pay to vote on further leaks using the leaker’s own cryptocurrency. Such a poll is reportedly live on Cyberleek’s website now, suggesting yet another leak is on the way.

Whether the culprit or culprits are ever caught may rest on how successful Take-Two’s legal team and the relevant authorities are at forcing social networks or crypto exchanges to divulge any personal details they hold on those responsible.
