Blumhouse Partners With MatPat to Make Amanda the Adventurer Movie, Confirms More Indie Horror Game Adaptations Are Coming

Blumhouse Productions has partnered with YouTube star Matthew ‘MatPat’ Patrick to create a series of movies based on viral indie horror games, and Amanda the Adventurer is first on the docket.

Representatives from Blumhouse and MatPat confirmed this partnership at New York Comic Con 2026, where they said the YouTuber has “a few projects in the works” with the studio.

“I am proud to announce that I’m working with Blumhouse to launch some new movies. I am taking some of my all-time favorite indie games and horror channels from the interwebs and partnering with Blumhouse to bring them to the big screen,” MatPat said at the panel.

Amanda the Adventurer Screens

The first of these is Amanda the Adventurer, a first-person, puzzle-solving indie horror game that sees the player character unravel an unsettling mystery involving a low-budget animated children’s show of the same name.

MatPat announced that he and Blumhouse are currently in talks with writers and directors, saying they’re “actually moving fast” to get this project made.

“It’s horror with heart. Amanda is this horrifying but tragic character. It asks the question, ‘Can you trust the media being put in front of your kids?’” he said.

This is the latest YouTuber-led film project to hit the news after Sean ‘Jacksepticeye’ McLoughlin revealed he was at the helm of an animated Bloodborne movie. And earlier this year, YouTube star Mark ‘Markiplier’ Fischbach stunned moviegoers with his self-funded horror movie Iron Lung, an adaptation of an indie horror game of the same name.

Indie horror games have always had a strong audience online, and it seems that major studios are finally taking notice — especially after the success of Kane Parson’s Backrooms earlier this year. The film was such a hit that other creepypasta movies were greenlit in short order, including adaptations of The Mandela Catalogue, Siren Head, and even The SCP Foundation.

Given the viral nature of Amanda the Adventurer, there’s a few good guesses as to what movies MatPat and Blumhouse are cooking up next. Probably all one needs to do is look at CoryxKenshin’s YouTube channel — could a Puppet Combo movie be on the way? (Nun Massacre would be wild to see in a theater.)
