Atari has signed a deal with Universal Pictures to develop 10 of its game IPs into feature films.
According to Deadline, Universal Pictures has bought the first project, although the game the movie will be based on hasn’t yet been disclosed.
The 10 titles covered are Asteroids, Adventure, Berzerk, Breakout, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Millipede, Missile Command, Pong, and Yars’ Revenge. All are expected to be turned into “big-scale action-adventure fare,” per Deadline’s reporting.
Atari chairman and CEO Wade Rosen confirmed the deal to Deadline, but Universal declined to comment.
“For more than five decades, Atari has created games and worlds that have remained part of popular culture long after their original release,” Rosen said.
“We are excited to work with Universal and Entertainment 360 to bring the spirit of our iconic brand and games to a new medium.”
