Warsaw-based developer People Can Fly has acquired Cooldown Games for an undisclosed amount.
As a result of the acquisition, People Can Fly will establish a publishing vertical within its operating structure.
Founded in 2024 in Dallas, Texas, Cooldown Games was established by industry veterans from Gearbox, Id Software, and Warner. CEO Steve Gibson previously served as president of Gearbox Publishing.
People Can Fly will provide growth capital and operational support for Cooldown’s current third-party titles and upcoming 2026 and 2027 launches. The companies collaborated previously on Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition.
People Can Fly said the acquisition is part of its strategy to “strengthen its publishing activity” and to “increase margin participation across owned intellectual property while introducing a new, capital-efficient revenue stream.”
It will generate recurring revenue through third-party publishing and support future mergers, acquisitions, and IP monetisation initiatives.
“While this is happening somewhat earlier than we originally anticipated, it is based on two key pillars: the trust in the Cooldown Games team built over the years, and an approach in which the publishing segment is intended to be revenue-generating from the outset, rather than cost-intensive,” said People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski.
“Bringing the Cooldown Games team into the organisation allows us to build on the publishing foundation we’ve been developing for years while strengthening our ability to take great games to market globally. This structure strengthens our control over commercial outcomes and positions us to capture greater value across the lifecycle of our titles, addressing challenges we have faced in the past.”
Cooldown Games CEO Steve Gibson added: “We’ve built Cooldown Games around championing exceptional developers and bringing their games to players around the world. Joining People Can Fly gives us the scale, resources, and long-term stability to do that at an even higher level.
“We know firsthand the great work that this team is capable of, and we’re excited to build the next generation of great games together.”
Last June, People Can Fly paused development on Project Gemini and Bitfrost due to issues with an unnamed publisher, leading to a reduction in team size.
People Can Fly is currently working with Krafton on Xeno Point, Sony Interactive Entertainment on Project Delta, and Xbox Game Studios on Gears of War: E-Day.
