Fireshine Games has acquired Danish indie studio Fair Games and its open world sandbox title Necesse.
Fair Games founder and CEO Mads Skovgaard will remain managing director of the studio, and it will continue with its current development team.
Necesse, originally launching in 2019, has garnered an estimated 2.5 million players. Under Fireshine, plans include continued PC support and additional platform ports for Necesse.
In an announcement post on Steam, Fair Games said Fireshine “will be helping out with a lot of the larger time-consuming tasks such as publishing and porting.”
“We’ll still be leading the game direction for Necesse and its upcoming updates,” it continued. “We’ll of course be brainstorming ideas and feedback with Fireshine, as their vast experience in the survival/crafting genre is an amazing resource to have.”
“This is a defining moment for Fair Games. Necesse has been looking for a partner for a long time, and Fireshine feels like the perfect fit,” said Skovgaard.
“Fireshine Games has harnessed success with its unique, strategic approach to game support via its talented team, and with the broad reach and resources that Fireshine Games will bring, we look forward to seeing the increased footprint and support of Necesse for fans around the world for years to come.”
Fireshine chief portfolio officer Jasper Tanner-Barnes previously told GamesIndustry.biz that “there’s no silver bullet for recognising a hit” following the success of Evil Raptor’s Far Far West.
“The first sniff test of any game that comes through our funnel is whether we intrinsically care about it. There have been games with high follower counts that we might decide to not move ahead with, just because we don’t believe enough in the core vision, we don’t think the spectacle is there, it’s not something we can get excited about. It absolutely has to stand out.”
