The extended look of Grand Theft Auto 6 was the most-viewed title on Netflix last week, reaching 31.1 million views in four days.

As Variety reports, viewership was tracked from the premiere last Thursday (August 27) through Sunday (August 30), which marks the end of Netflix’s weekly Top 10 viewing window.

The 30-minute preview led Netflix’s English-language film list in 87 of 93 tracked countries, surpassing the crime thriller The Whisper Man, which stars Robert De Niro and Adam Scott.

The premiere was exclusive to Netflix for six hours before becoming available on YouTube. The video on Rockstar Games’ channel has since reached 17 million views.

Variety noted that Netflix “defines a view as the total hours viewed for a title divided by its runtime, meaning one household watching a program twice would only be counted once.” In contrast, YouTube counts a view as soon as a video begins to play.

Sensor Tower data indicated that Netflix’s US mobile viewership increased by 35% hour-over-hour during the extended preview last week.

Mobile users rose by 50% compared to the average for the same period over the previous 12 weeks. Web traffic increased by 125%, temporarily causing the streaming service to crash.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously told GamesIndustry.biz that the Netflix premiere was “one of the hors d’oeuvres” of its marketing campaign for the title, which launches on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
