IGN Entertainment, the parent company of GamesIndustry.biz, has appointed Alex Simmons as VP, Editorial and Group Editor-in-Chief, overseeing the firm’s entire portfolio of editorial brands.
Simmons was previously Senior International Editorial Director, the latest role in a 20-year run at the firm that included serving as Editor-in-Chief of IGN UK. In his new role he will lead editorial across IGN.com, Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun and GamesIndustry.biz, while continuing to support partner brands Outside Xbox and Hookshot Media, home of Nintendo Life, Time Extension and the recently-launched Steam Hype.
Separately, the firm has promoted Wesley Yin-Poole to Managing Editor, IGN, managing the day-to-day editorial operations of its global editorial teams across the US, UK and Australia. Yin-Poole previously spent two years as Head of News, IGN, following a long career at Eurogamer where he rose to Editor-in-Chief.
Simmons will report into Justin Davis, who was appointed as VP, Editorial and Commerce last year as part of a unification of the firm’s editorial, commercial and merchandise teams.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have Alex and Wes leading IGN Entertainment’s editorial direction,” he said. “They are two of the most well-respected voices in games media and pop culture journalism. Their leadership will keep IGN’s journalism ambitious, trusted, and more relevant than ever, as audiences increasingly seek out true human perspectives and expertise.”
“I am honored to lead the editorial teams at IGN Entertainment,” Simmons told GamesIndustry.biz. “I have immense respect for the exceptional talent we have across all our sites, and guiding the vision for the future of IGNE is an absolute privilege. While today’s digital media landscape presents unprecedented challenges, it also offers huge potential and we have big plans for 2027 and beyond. I cannot wait to help shape the next chapter of IGNE’s growth and success.”
“I’m honored to be helping IGN’s wonderful editorial team capitalise on the exciting opportunities that await during the rest of 2026 and beyond,” added Yin-Poole.
The announcements come ahead of what is expected to be strong performance for consumer gaming sites in Q4, driven by the release of GTA 6 later this month.
