Mobile studio Metacore has confirmed layoffs of 159 employees in Finland and the closure of its operations in Germany and Sweden.
Metacore announced restructuring plans last month, citing that Merge Mansion has “plateaued over the past few years” and recent investments have not resulted in new game launches.
Supercell also revealed that it would be acquiring Metacore and adding Merge Mansion to its live games portfolio.
“We have concluded the change negotiations and have communicated the results with our employees earlier this week,” said Metacore CEO Mika Tammenkoski.
“These have been really difficult and painful decisions, and we fully understand the impact this has – not only on our employees, but also on the game industry that has not had it easy.”
Tammenkoski continued: “To support our affected employees, we’ve put together a package that includes reasonable severance, the option to keep work devices, extended occupational healthcare and wellbeing services, as well as a range of transition measures to help people find their next opportunity.
“We are doing our best to support these team members in finding their next opportunities, and believe that any company would be lucky to have them on their team.”
