NBA 2K25 servers to shut down on December 31, single-player story mode will become unplayable

NBA 2K25 will be delisted from storefronts on October 30, 2026, with servers to sunset on December 31. Multiplayer and online modes will no longer be available starting January 1, 2027.

In a post published by 2K, players who own the game can still redownload the title and play offline modes, including Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA.

Features that require a connection to 2K servers will be unavailable, including MyCareer and MyTeam modes. MyCareer is the game’s single-player story mode, which relies on in-game currency to upgrade players.

NBA 2K25 launched in September 2024. The decision to sunset the game follows 2K’s trajectory of delisting NBA games over the course of two years.

Last year, the National Basketball Association (NBA) extended its relationship with 2K with a “new multiyear global partnership expansion.”

As part of the agreement, NBA and 2K launched NBA Take-Two Media, described as a “modern entertainment company that will bring fans and players together through competitive gaming, social-first content, original programming, and live events.”

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but 2K confirmed its NBA series has sold over 150 million units globally.

“We are immensely pleased to continue our longstanding, highly successful partnership with the NBA and the NBPA and look forward to building upon the record-setting achievements that we have accomplished together,” said Take-Two Interactive chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick.

“We are excited to unveil NBA Take-Two Media and look forward to seeing how it will create an entirely new and multifaceted NBA experience for our communities.”
