Grand Theft Auto 6 is two weeks away, and the highly anticipated title has nearly reached eight million pre-orders, according to recent data.

Sensor Tower’s GTA 6 tracker reports 7.71 million pre-ordered units, generating an estimated $751 million in gross revenue.

The PlayStation 5 edition accounts for 74% of pre-orders, generating $559 million, while Xbox Series X|S represents 26% and $192 million.

During the first week of pre-orders in July, Newzoo estimated GTA 6 generated $260 million globally. The firm also projected a 17.5% increase in full game spending this year due to GTA 6.

Sensor Tower reported in August that 89% of GTA 6 pre-orders are for the $100 Ultimate Edition, compared to 11% for the $80 Standard Edition.

“If we used any ‘normal’ preorder trajectories, the current four million preorders will be 40 million+ at launch,” Karl Kontus, SVP and GM of Video Game Insights at Sensor Tower, told GamesIndustry.biz at the time.

“Actual preorders might land more in the 25 million ballpark. For comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 announced eight million preorders by launch. 25 million preorder units would mean circa $2 billion in sales by the time the game actually launches – immediately paying for its development cost and probably for the vast majority of the marketing as well.”

Further analysis from Sensor Tower published last month found that pre-orders for GTA 6 were 148% ahead of 2022’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at this point from launch. This analysis did not cover boxed releases.

Analysts previously told GamesIndustry.biz they expect the game would sell from 30 to 25 million to over 50 million units.
