The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) has announced that Resident Evil creator, Shinji Mikami, will be inducted into its Hall of Fame next year.
Over his 30-year career, Mikami has created several enduring IPs for Capcom and beyond, including Devil May Cry, The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush, and Ghostwire: Tokyo, and is described as “passionate about nurturing creative environments where the next generation of game developers can thrive”.
Mikami currently leads Unbound Inc. as creative director and CEO.
In a statement, AIAS president Meggan Scavio said: “Shinji Mikami is a monumental and influential figure for both fans and developers alike.
“He has continually demonstrated his originality and creative vision that resonates and inspires the action game genre. We are honored to be able to celebrate Mikami-san’s achievements and induct him into our Hall of Fame during our 30th anniversary of the D.I.C.E. Awards.”
Goichi ‘Suda51’ Suda, who will be presenting the award, added: “It was from Mikami-san that I learned how to approach game development, both as a director and as a designer. Of all the many Padawans Mikami-san has mentored, I’m truly honoured that I was chosen to be his presenter for this induction into a kind of video game hall-of-fame.
“I’m sure Mikami-san’s innumerable fans and industry comrades are just as delighted as I am to see him receive such an amazing award.”
Earlier this year, former Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells joined the Hall of Fame at the DICE Awards. Last year’s recipient was Insomniac Games founder and former CEO Ted Price.
Other recent recipients include composer Koji Kondo, Double Fine Productions studio head Tim Schafer, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, and PlayStation’s former head of internal production Connie Booth.
