Star Wars Zero Company developer Bit Reactor has started bringing back staff it furloughed ahead of the game’s launch.
In a statement shared on Bluesky, CEO Greg Foertsch said the studio “started the process of returning more of our team back to work” this week, but stopped short of confirming how many people are returning.
Foertsch said asking staff to step away was “an incredibly difficult decision” that followed “unexpected business developments outside of our control,” but was necessary to “eventually bring as many people back as possible.”
A person familiar with the situation told Game File that more than half of the pre-furlough team is now back on the payroll, with others still unpaid. Game File has reported that furloughed staff keep their employee status but receive neither salary nor benefits.
Bit Reactor furloughed “many of its workers” in the weeks before the game’s release, a decision it said was made “before it was clear how the launch would go.” Sources told Game File at the time that 80% of staff were furloughed, leaving a skeleton crew to address post-launch bugs.
