They Believe 2020 Was Stolen. They Could Be in Charge of Elections in 2028

In the wake of the 2020 election, Kobach was an adviser to Texas’ effort to overturn the results and assisted a member of the Michigan Board of State Canvassers who tried to rescind her vote to certify Michigan’s 2020 presidential election results. In 2022, Kobach was announced as a headliner at a Kansas rally with prominent election denier Lindell.

Recent polling suggests Kobach is in a tight race with his Democratic opponent, Chris Mann.

Michigan

In Michigan, Eaton County prosecutor Doug Lloyd won the GOP nomination for attorney general earlier this year, in a race that had once included Matt DePerno, a lawyer facing felony charges for undue possession of a voting machine and conspiracy in the wake of the 2020 election. (DePerno pled not guilty to the charges, and the case is still pending in the district court.)

Unlike DePerno, Lloyd is not typically labeled as an election denier, and he has claimed to be more moderate than his Democratic opponent, Eli Savit. But in a recent podcast interview reviewed by WIRED, when asked about “credible concerns raised by voters about the 2020 election,” he signaled his willingness to relitigate the six-year-old issue.

“I believe the attorney general has the ability to actually use their investigative officers within their office or the Michigan State Police to actually go back and look at those items,” Lloyd told the MI True Red podcast. “And so as I look at it, you know, I want to take those things in.”

Recent polling shows Lloyd tied in his race against Lavit.

Nevada

In Nevada, Trump has endorsed lawyer Adriana Guzmán Fralick for the position of attorney general. That may be because she has said she would push for Nevada’s version of the SAVE Act, which Trump has failed to force Congress to approve on a federal level. The act would impose severe restrictions on eligible voters by requiring those registered to produce a passport or birth certificate, documents that tens of millions of Americans readily do not have.

“President Trump is fighting for secure elections—but DC keeps dragging its feet,” Guzmán Fralick wrote on Facebook earlier this year. “Nevada shouldn’t have to wait. As your Attorney General, I will push for the SAVE Nevada Act to remove non-citizens from our voter rolls, count all ballots on Election Day, and end universal mail-in voting. What Washington won’t finish, Nevada will.”

Experts have repeatedly said the SAVE Act would disenfranchise millions of voters.

Guzmán Fralick has also touted the endorsement of Joey Gilbert, a far-right boxer turned MAGA influencer who gained fame for spreading conspiracy theories about the Covid-19 pandemic. Gilbert, who calls Fralick a “friend,” was also present at the rally at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. While he didn’t enter the building, he was captured on video near serial conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, chanting “1776.”

Recent polling shows Guzmán Fralick trailing her Democratic opponent Nicole Cannizzaro by 8 points.
