Ubisoft announces playstest platform The Player Council

Ubisoft has announced the soft launch of The Player Council, a platform where players can test games and give feedback directly to developers.

Supported by Ubisoft Connect and the Games2Gether community platform, The Player Council lets players test early concepts and prototypes, as well as live experiences for existing PC games.

The soft launch features four projects: two early prototypes, the online multiplayer Codename Split Point and the single-player strategy Codename Rook, along with two live games, Riders Republic and Atomega.

For example, Atomega is set to receive its first update in nine years. Ubisoft states that participation in The Player Council will allow the team to “test new ideas, gather player feedback and suggestions, and then make changes and develop future content based on community input.”

Two more co-op projects, Codename Decagon and Codename Harlequin, will be added later this year.

Players can register on the platform for free, but must sign an NDA. After registering, they may apply to various projects. If accepted by developers, players can test, play, and provide feedback.

Participants will be connected with other players to discuss improvements, while developers will “share insight on their decision-making process as they evaluate and iterate” the games.

Ubisoft clarified that there is no cost to test prototypes, and testing live content “is available to participants who already own the game.”

Players begin at the Member Access tier, and increased participation and feedback unlock additional opportunities. The Insider and Shaper Access tiers provide access to “more sensitive projects and early-stage content.”

Ubisoft notes that new features, tools, games, and prototypes will be added to The Player Council as the platform progresses.

Last month, Ubisoft announced plans to move towards a “more selective model” to reduce its reliance on individual game launches. It will instead lean on its back-catalogue and live services titles for revenue.

“Launching a game early, without it being sufficiently developed, or releasing it at the same time as competing games – whether AAA or games incorporating major technical/artistic innovations – or at the same time as in-game events, major updates with little advance notice, or content for older successful games, can significantly limit its commercial impact,” the publisher said in its 2025/26 annual report.
