Rainbow Six Mobile is shutting down less than a year after its global launch. The free-to-play tactical shooter will remain available to play until January 15, 2027.
“Bringing the Rainbow Six experience to mobile has been an exciting journey, and we are proud of the passion, creativity, and dedication our team has put into the game,” Ubisoft said in a statement.
“While we are proud of what this team and community have built together, our team will move on to other long-term strategic projects.”
Ubisoft said it will share further updates for players “to know exactly what to expect and [to] prepare for the transition.” The game’s next season will launch as planned next week.
Ubisoft announced Rainbow Six Mobile in 2022, and it had been in development for six and a half years. 11 Ubisoft studios, along with Tencent, worked on the title.
The first closed beta took place in September 2022, followed by a soft launch in 2023 and its worldwide rollout on February 23, 2026.
Creative director Justin Swan previously said Rainbow Six Mobile was designed to “evolve very much into its own thing” and to let players experience “the game in short, accessible bursts, while also enabling millions of new players to get the Rainbow Six experience.”
Last month, Ubisoft announced that its Creative House 2 business unit, which houses Tom Clancy’s The Division, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell, will be known as Massive Entertainment.
It also includes “new original IP including March of the Giants,” which Ubisoft acquired from Amazon Game Studios.
Massive Entertainment is led by former Amazon Game Studios head Christoph Hartmann, who joined Ubisoft as general manager in June.
Rainbow Six operates under Vantage Studios, a joint venture with Tencent (which has a 25% stake), alongside Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.
Led by co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, the studios under Massive Entertainment include Ubisoft Barcelona, Montreal Vantage, Quebec, Saguenay, Sherbrooke, and Sofia.
