Total US consumer spending on video games jumped 12% to $5.3 billion in March 2026, while first quarter spending rose by 5% year-on-year to $14.6 billion.
Hardware sales drove these gains, rising 69% to $500 million due to strong Nintendo Switch 2 performance.
Circana data shows the Switch 2 led both unit and dollar sales in March and year-to-date 2026, followed by PlayStation 5, which saw a 3% year-on-year sales increase.
Switch 2 unit sales are 12% higher than the original Switch in its first 10 months. It remains the fastest-selling hardware platform in Circana’s records since they began in 1995.
Video game content spending increased 8% to $4.5 billion. Console content grew 22%, driven by a 40% rise in digital premium downloads and new releases such as Crimson Desert, MLB The Show 26, and Pokémon Pokopia.
Pokopia led the Nintendo platform chart, followed by Pokémon Legends: Z-A in second. Pokémon Legends: Z-A ranked No. 18 on Circana’s overall Top 20.
Resident Evil: Requiem is now among the top five best-selling Resident Evil titles in US dollar sales after two months, following only Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 4 (2023), Resident Evil: Village, and the original Resident Evil 4.
On mobile, Monopoly Go retained the top spot despite a revenue decline of over 10% quarter-on-quarter.
