Zacharia says she was, rather, an affiliate marketer for Beachbody, following her 2013 return from China. She recalls being brought in by a friend and promoting its Shakeology product, which is promoted as a “superfood nutrition shake.” She stopped using and promoting the product, she says, because of its vitamin A content, which she didn’t feel was good for her while pregnant.

Beachbody, now known as BODi, confirmed in a statement that Zacharia was among its 300,000 “independent Team Beachbody distributors” in 2013. A spokesperson added that they believed it would be “misrepresentation” to conflate Zacharia’s time at Beachbody with “BODi’s current business and operations.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly for a company that relied on a multilevel marketing scheme for decades, the company has run into a number of legal issues over the years. It’s been accused of falsely advertising a revolutionary anti-aging treatment (the suit was voluntarily dismissed), and making false or misleading income promises to contractors. It got into a copyright battle with a company called orderlegalsteroids.com, accusing it of stealing an image of Israeli bodybuilder Sagi Kalev from promotional materials for their “BODY BEAST” Program. (Beachbody won a default judgment.)

In 2017, Beachbody, without admitting any wrongdoing, settled a $3.6 million consumer protection lawsuit with the city attorney in Santa Monica, California. Prosecutors alleged that Beachbody made health-related claims about its products, including Shakeology, that were “false, misleading, and not backed by scientific evidence.” They also claimed in filings that Beachbody had been automatically charging customers credit cards for renewals of their products without their consent. As part of its settlement, Beachbody was ordered to pay $1 million to nonprofits that promote health and nutrition.

And in 2023, Beachbody was hit with a class action lawsuit accusing it of scamming its coaches. The lead plaintiff was a schoolteacher who alleged she joined Beachbody with the hope of making a supplementary income, but ended up paying $20,000 in personal funds to cover expenses related to her coaching role—all while making about $50 per month for about 50 hours of work. The following year, the company dropped its multilevel marketing program in favor of a “single-level affiliate” one. In 2025, it reached a settlement in the class action suit that resulted in the dismissal of all claims, and the lawsuit was later formally dismissed.

In a statement to WIRED, BODi says, “Team Beachbody was a peer-to-peer sales and support network” and that the company “helped tens of millions of people pursue their health goals through in home fitness programs like P90X, Insanity, and 21 Day Fix, and nutrition products such as Shakeology.”

This particular notch on Zacharia’s resume puts her in good company with other high-profile Trumpworld personnel, a cadre of professionals who have a great fondness for supplement-related business opportunities. FBI chief Kash Patel previously promoted supplements that promised to help people “detox” from the Covid-19 vaccine. Nicole Saphier, Trump’s nominee for surgeon general, reported receiving nearly $300,000 in business income from her own company that owns a supplement line. And Donald Trump himself once oversaw a multilevel marketing company, The Trump Network, which sold an array of vitamins, home urine tests claiming to test for vitamin deficiency, and children’s snacks.
