In case you missed it, Magic: The Gathering has returned to Middle-Earth with some gusto. The Lord of the Rings set is widely regarded as one of the best Universes Beyond offerings yet, and The Hobbit is getting a pretty great reception from players, too.
As the set only launched recently, its Collector Boosters are harder to find than the Arkenstone in Smaug’s hoard of treasures, but Amazon has a “deal” that might get your attention.

We say “deal” because, as with many things with this set right now, the Magic: The Gathering Hobbit Gift bundle is being sold for more than its MSRP.
In fact, Wizards says it should be $89.99, so $164 is a colossal price hike. And yet, the same bundle can be found for $200 elsewhere, or is simply sold out with no sign of returning.
We’re giving you this information up front because you’re a big Hobbit now and you can spend your money as you please, but this is still a discount of 18% on the same bundle purchased elsewhere. If you really want it, buy it; if you don’t want to spend that kind of money, we get it, but at least you’re informed.
So what’s the big draw? While it is true that you get 9 Play Boosters inside, the most valuable cards in the set are restricted to Collector Boosters. And in this bundle, you’ll find one (hopefully to rule them all).
Smaug? Bard? Gandalf? What’ll it be? Well, that’s the point, really: you could open a whole bunch of neat rare cards, or you could pay your next month’s rent by pulling a Gleaming Splendor.
Aside from the ten total packs, you’ll also get 34 land cards that include full-art seasonal Hobbit lands that are exclusive to this set, and 10 full-art Middle-Earth Journey lands (honestly, these are so cool I’d probably frame them). There’s also a die inside and a box to keep everything in.
